Tools needed:
8 mm crochet hook
Bernat blanket yarn or any yarn that uses 8 mm hook

Ch 17
Row 1: 5 hdc in third ch from hook, 1 hdc in the next 16 st
Row 3: ch 1, 1 hdc in next 16 st, (1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st) repeat 5 times, 1 hdc in the next 16 st.
Row 4: ch 1 and turn work. 1 hdc in next 16 st, (1 hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st) repeat 5 times. 1 hdc in next 16 st
Row 5: ch 1 turn, 1 hdc in next 16 st, (1 hdc in next 3 st, 2 hdc in next st) repeat 5 times, 1 hdc in next 16 st.
Row 6: This time do not turn, keep working around and put 1 sc in the top part of the hdc done in previous rounds.
Once other side is reached, 1 sc next st place marker, 1 sc in next 3 st,
26 sc2tog, 1 sc in next 4 st.
Row 7- Row 10: 1 sc in each st around. Stop before st marker in row 10.
Row 11: 1 sc in next 20 st, (2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st) repeat 5 times
Row 12: ch 1 turn, skip first st, 1 sc in next 14 st, sl st in row10.
Row 13: ch 1 turn, skip first st, 1 sc in next 14 st, sl st into row 10, ch cut yarn and weave in and secure tail.
Row 14: sew bill to top part of hat.
Row 4: ch 1 and turn work. 1 hdc in next 16 st, (1 hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st) repeat 5 times. 1 hdc in next 16 st
